Codes that look the way you want them to

The app writes a part number or a location code for you whenever you leave the field empty. Until now it decided on its own what those looked like. Now you do.

  A new Codes screen in your profile decides what a part number and a location code look like when the app writes one, and the two are chosen separately. Four shapes: a word and a number (PROD-000042, LOC-000042), a number on its own (00000042), random characters that say nothing about where a thing is or when it arrived, or a pattern you write yourself — BOLT-{number} gives you BOLT-000042, and {random} fills in random characters. Every shape shows an example beside it. New part numbers now read PROD-000042 unless you say otherwise, and new location codes stay random the way they were. Nothing you already have changes: a code is on a label and in your history, so this only decides what the next one looks like.

• Fixed Pressing a suggested part number now gives the product exactly the number on the button.

  Pressing one of the suggested part numbers while creating a product now gives that product exactly the number on the button, and the next product you create is offered the next number in the row. The suggestions were being written into the field in a longer form than the field itself takes, so the product was stored under a number two characters away from the one you pressed — and creating a second product that way was refused as a number already in use. Leaving the field empty and letting the app number the product has always worked and is unchanged.
