Where a suggested barcode name comes from, said out loud

When you scan a shop barcode, :app can offer a name for it. That name is not ours — it comes from an open dataset somebody else built and gave away under a licence that asks to be credited. There is now a page saying so, readable by anyone, signed in or not.

Open a line to read the whole story behind it.

  • New A Credits page names the open dataset behind the suggested barcode names, its publisher and its licence.

A Credits page, listed beside the security and compatibility pages. It names the open dataset the suggested barcode names come from, who publishes it, and the licence it carries, and links to both. It also says the two things worth knowing about that suggestion: it describes the article rather than your stock, so it is a starting point to correct rather than an answer — and scanning a code contacts nobody, because the lookup reads a copy held alongside the app.

Dates, not deadlines

Each date is the day that work landed, and nothing more. It is not a support window, not a promise that a version stays available, and not a schedule for the next one.
