The text on the label, kept and searchable

A product keeps the words printed on it, read off its photos, where search can find them — and the category suggested for a new product is the right one more often.

Open a line to read the whole story behind it.

  • New A product keeps the text read off its photos in a field of its own, and search finds the product by any of those words.

Reading a photo of a label used to put everything printed on the box into the description, where it buried whatever you had written there yourself. The words now go into a field of their own, Text from photos, and the description stays yours. Search finds a product by any word in that field. On a product's edit page, on a computer or a phone, Read the text from its photos reads its photos again and replaces the text with what they say; when the photos have no text on them, nothing is changed.

  • Improved The category suggested for a new product from a photo is the right one more often in Dutch and German.

The category suggested for a new product is found by matching its words to your categories. A category is usually named in the plural and a thing in the singular — Batterijen and batterij, Schrauben and Schraube — and only an English plural used to match. Dutch and German plurals match now as well, so the right category is suggested more often, and a word that only looks like another one is still not taken for it.

Dates, not deadlines

Each date is the day that work landed, and nothing more. It is not a support window, not a promise that a version stays available, and not a schedule for the next one.
