Your label design decides what is printed

A label design now decides both what is on a label and which roll it prints on, a place can choose its own design, and printing warns you when there is no design yet.

Open a line to read the whole story behind it.

  • New Choose a different label design for a place and everything under it, on its edit page.

On Warehouse → Label designs you choose the design used for each kind of label. On the edit page of a place you can now choose a different one for that place and everything under it. A place you do not touch follows the place above it, and where nothing up the tree chose one, the design from Label designs is used. The choice replaces the label roll a place used to have: a design brings its own roll.

  • New A label with no design cannot be printed; you are told what to do instead.

When a kind of label has no design yet, or none of its designs is chosen to be used, it can no longer be printed: the print screen and the phone say so and tell you what to do — design one, or choose which design to use under Warehouse → Label designs. The test label on your profile is not affected and still prints the standard layout.

  • Improved A label design is always used, on the roll it was drawn for.

A design used to be skipped whenever your label printing was set to a different roll, and the standard layout came out instead. Now the design leads: labels of that kind print with it, on the roll it was drawn for, and the printer that takes that roll is used. Only one design per kind of label can be the one in use, so there is never a question which one prints. The roll you choose under Label printing still applies to kinds of label without a design. The summary of rolls per kind at the top of Label printing is gone, since the design now decides that, and so is the choice of a different roll per kind of label; you can still choose which printer each kind goes to.

Dates, not deadlines

Each date is the day that work landed, and nothing more. It is not a support window, not a promise that a version stays available, and not a schedule for the next one.
