A Brother that says why

A Brother label printer now tells you why a label did not print, and the printing help covers every printer the app can reach.

Open a line to read the whole story behind it.

  • Improved A Brother QL now says why it did not print a label, instead of only turning its light red.

Before each label the app asks the printer what it holds. The wrong roll, an open cover or an empty roll is now named beside the print button — “The printer holds a 62 mm roll, and this label is for 29 mm” — before anything is printed, and the print dialog opens instead, just as it does when a DYMO refuses a label. If the printer stops while printing, the reason is shown too.

  • Improved The help page on printing labels now covers Brother, Phomemo and Niimbot printers as well as DYMO.

What each printer needs to print without the dialog, side by side; the two steps they share; each make’s own setup, including what to switch off on a QL-700 and what a computer asks before the browser can reach a Brother; and what to check when nothing prints.

  • Fixed The direct-printing setting no longer says it is for DYMO printers only.

It always switched direct printing on for every printer, but read “Print directly to my DYMO printer”. It now reads “Print directly to my label printer” and says what each make needs, and the message shown when a browser cannot reach the printer no longer names DYMO’s software.

Dates, not deadlines

Each date is the day that work landed, and nothing more. It is not a support window, not a promise that a version stays available, and not a schedule for the next one.
